UW commit Chris Young suspended
Posted by Bob Condotta
Sandy Ringer of our staff has the details here on some bad news for Chris Young, a running back/defensive back at Auburn High School and one of the top-rated commits in UW's Class of 2010.
An obvious question for those who read this blog is whether this will impact his scholarship status with the Huskies. Too early to know that right now but if/when information on that arises we'll pass it along. UW coaches can't comment on individual recruits until they sign letters-of-intent, which Young has not done --- he has merely committed and like all commits, cannot sign until February. So this isn't something UW coach Steve Sarkisian can comment on.
Young has been putting up huge numbers as a running back at Auburn --- as the story details, he has 27 TDs and 1,424 rushing yards so far. But he has been expected to be a defensive back at UW, said by some to be maybe the best safety prospect in the state since Lawyer Milloy in the early '90s. That's obviously an area the Huskies need to shore up so Young's commitment was regarded as a key one for the Huskies. He was rated a 4-star recruit by Scout.com.
However, Young has also been rumored to have some academic issues that could potentially impact his ability to enroll immediately, something he acknowledged in this story a couple months ago.
