Locker talk
Posted by Bob Condotta
Here's some of what Jake Locker had to say today during his weekly meeting with the media, which for obvious reasons focused on his deep thigh bruise and recovery:
How are you feeling?: ''Uh, pretty good. I got a chance to run around a little bit yesterday. We'll see how I feel when I go back out there today and run around again.''
What are the chances you are going to play Saturday?: "I should be ready to go. We'll see how it progresses through the week.''
What is the toughest thing about the deep thigh bruise? Is it the running?: "It's stiff. There's a good amount of bleeding and swelling. And you just have to get it out of there so everything functions right.''
Do you know when it happened?: "It was the first quarter. We were going in on third down. It was a third down run. I kept it and got the first down and right at the end of the play I got a helmet to my thigh.''
When it first happened could you have imagined it was going to be this bad of an injury?: "No, I just thought. I have had it before, I thought it was a charley horse type of deal and they usually go away after 10 minutes or so. This one just kind of hung around for a little bit.''
When did you realize that it was something more?: "After the game, I was in the locker room and had a chance to look at it and had swollen up after the game.''
How has it progressed in terms of the stiffness and swelling?: "It's gotten better every day, yep, gotten better every day.''
How have you been treating this injury?: "I've spent a lot of time in the training room. Obvioulsy, I didnt do much last week at practice. I spent a lot of time with Rob the trainier to make sure I was getting ready to go for when I went home this weekend. I saw a physical therapist up there that I've been seeing since I was in high school.''
Does it compare to the hamstring injury you had last year?: "It's different injury definitely. Obvioulsy that was a strained muscle and youre dealing with different circumstances. You got to get the swelling and the bleeding out of there.''
Other than the leg, do you feel refreshed after basically not doing anything for seven days? "Yeah, yeah, feels really good. Yeah definitely. It was nice to be able to have a couple days just to get away, hang out, relax and spend some time with my family and friends. I think for the most part everybody feels the same way coming back from the bye week mentally and physically refreshed and ready to go.''
Will the decision to play on Saturday be yours or the coaches?: "I think it will be a collaboration, definitely. They are going to expect me to be honest with them and how I feel and what I'd be able to do. But ultimately come down what they feel is best for me and this football team.''
