Sark says Locker questionable; Locker says he'll play
Posted by Bob Condotta
Except for the pizza eating by media --- man can some of us put it away --- the Monday press luncheon is over.
The big news is kind of muddled news as Steve Sarkisian said he would officially term Jake Locker as "questionable'' to play this week due to the deep thigh bruise he suffered against Oregon.
Sarkisian says there continues to be bleeding and swelling in Locker's thigh, hampering his mobility.
However, when Locker met with us he said "I should be ready to go.''
Locker hedged a little saying he would "see how it progresses during the week'' but fully indicated he would play.
He was apparently a little limited in Sunday night's practice, the first since the team returned from a bye, but did more running around than last week, when he did little.
If Locker can't play, the starter would be backup Ronnie Fouch, who took most of the reps with the No. 1 offense last week. Sarkisian said if need be, he would play true frosh Keith Price, though ideally he would like to redshirt Price.
I'll have more complete quotes and details from Sarkisian and Locker later.
In other injury news, Sarkisian said E.J. Savannah is "very iffy'' with a broken hand suffered against Oregon. He had surgery on Friday, apparently.and Sarkisian said it would probably be best to sit Savannah this week and allow him to recover to play in the final three games. Cort Dennison would likely start in place of Savannah.
Sarkisian said everyone else (other than the previously injured guys) should be ready to go this week. That includes DT Cameron Elisara, who sat out last week with a stinger issue.
He said DT Everrette Thompson was limited with the flu during Sunday's practice but thinks he'll be able to return.
Sarkisian also said the UW coaches saw at least 30 high school games while recruiting over the weekend.
