My Top 25

Posted by Bob Condotta

The big question this week was how far up to move Oregon?

The Ducks look as good as any team in the country right now --- and with just three seniors starting the past two weeks, that's a truly frightening sight for the rest of the Pac-10.

But then there is that loss at Boise State, which was not a fluke in any way --- the Broncos outgained the Ducks 361-152, out-first-downed them 22-6, etc. And while BSU hasn't played anyone of note since then, the Broncos also haven't done anything to deserve being passed by Oregon unless you just decide to throw the head-to-head out the window --- which I don't think in this case you can do since it was so one-sided, and the second year in a row Boise State has beaten Oregon. So I settled on this for this week --- Oregon would be one spot behind Boise State.

The next question was how far to drop USC -- I settled on No. 17. Maybe that's a little harsh, but USC hasn't looked real good for about a month now, and only against Cal and Ohio State this year has it really looked like its old self. Obviously, it's time to realize this isn't the same USC team as the past seven years. I thought about dropping USC below Arizona but decided not to based on USC's two good non-conference wins.

There was lots of shuffling at the bottom and two re-entries in my poll are Cal and Notre Dame. Cal's loss at Oregon looks a little more understandable with each passing day. Notre Dame's not as good as the national title talk before the year. But they also are 6-2 --- a game at Pitt in two weeks will tell a lot more.

Here's my complete ballot:

1, Florida
2, Texas
3, Alabama
4, Cincinnati
5, Boise State
6, Oregon
7, Iowa
8, TCU
9, LSU
10, Penn State
11, Georgia Tech
12, Houston
13, Utah
14, Ohio State
15, Oklahoma
16, Miami
17, USC
18, Oklahoma State
19, Pitt
20, Arizona
21, South Florida
22, Virginia Tech
23, Auburn
24, Notre Dame
25, Cal

So Rip --- We disagree by one spot and I'm drinking the Oregon Kool-Aid? You must at least be in line, then. As for TCU and BSU, the BYU win...  Posted on November 1, 2009 at 12:10 PM by Bob Condotta. Jump to comment
Wow. Here we sit. Four games left in the season. Arguing about how good the ducks are. Somebody shoot me.  Posted on November 1, 2009 at 1:18 PM by howdy doodee. Jump to comment
