UCLA loses to Oregon State; now preps for Huskies

While the Huskies took today off, their opponent next week --- UCLA --- lost a tough one in Corvallis to Oregon State.
Down 19-3 in the fourth quarter, the Bruins rallied to tie the game with two touchdowns and two two-point plays. But Oregon State then drove down the field to score with 44 seconds left to take a 26-19 lead. UCLA got to the OSU 27 on the following drive but a pass on the final play only got to the 15 and time ran out.
UCLA is now 3-5 overall and 0-5 in Pac-10 play, having lost five in a row in the second year under former Husky head coach Rick Neuheisel. UCLA is now 3-11 in Pac-10 play under Neuheisel, 7-13 overall.
It will be interesting to see how UCLA takes this loss --- was it just another demoralizing defeat? Or will the Bruins take some solace from the last-ditch comeback?
The key to the comeback was the passing tandem of QB Kevin Prince --- who was a commit to UW for a while for the Class of 2008 before switching after the hiring of Neuheisel --- and WR Nelson Rosario.
Prince was 22-34 for 323 yards, while Rosario was 6-152. The 6-5, 211-pound Rosario will be a particularly tough matchup for the Huskies --- guys like him are one reason UW coaches spent the week experimenting with 6-3 Anthony Boyles at cornerback. Rosario caught four passes for 123 yards in the fourth quarter to spark UCLA's comeback.
An encouraging sign for UW could be that UCLA's once-vaunted defense again looked leaky. The Bruins allowed 463 yards to the Beavers and gave up 456 to Arizona and 494 to Cal the previous two games.
