Holt on KJR --- says Boyles to play vs. UCLA
Posted by Bob Condotta
I didn't get to hear Nick Holt's weekly show on KJR-AM with Dave Mahler.
But I talked to someone who did ---- okay, Softy himself --- and he said Holt had a few interesting things to say worth passing along.
--- Holt said Anthony Boyles will definitely play at cornerback vs. UCLA on Nov. 7. That means Boyles obviously impressed them in practice the last two days, his 6-3 height providing a different look --- and helping match up with a Bruins' team that has four receiverse 6-3 or taller on its current depth chart. Sounds like his exact role is still to be determined but I would imagine it might be a nickel or specialty kind of role to start out --- and I'm sure he won't be taking time away from Desmond Trufant.
--- He also repeated what he said during his weekly meeting with the rest of us on Tuesday that Jason Wells will play in the last four games. He told us on Tuesday that he thought about putting Wells in against Oregon but they decided the extra two weeks of recovery would be good before putting him back on the field again. Wells can play both safety spots but is likely to play primarily free safety. Holt said he wouldn't be used on special teams to save his reps for defense. (I talked to Wells the other day and will get that up soon).
--- He said he would give himself a grade of "C'' for the season.
--- He said he's frustrated that Everrette Thompson has had continuing issues with his foot as he likes Thompson's ability but it's been hard for him to show it consistently this year.
You should be able to access the entire interview here later today.
