As mentioned yesterday, we talked with Nick Holt following practice, and I included some of that in the blog post and stories.

Holt also talked about a few other topics, including what he wants to do with the bye week.

Holt said one of the biggest things is to "self-scout'' the Huskies, to take a deep look at what the team is doing and if there are trends developing that opponents may be picking up on or taking advantage of.

"We have a couple of days to look at ourselves and look at all of our defenses, where we are breaking down, the issues that have come up this season, things that we are doing well and not doing well,'' he said. "This whole week is a pretty good time in the season to take a break.''

Holt said he'd be able to give a better answer of what is found in that self-scout later.

But he said one think that sticks out are "the big runs that have gotten out. I'm not used to that. Just the simple runs that are 10 yards that I'm used to being 8-10 yard gains are going for 50-60 yards, and that is the most frustrating thing for me.Because at times we play really good defense and then all the sudden there are two, three series in a row that are bam, bam, bam you are getting hit from all angles, like the third quater (against Oregon) and the third-down stuff (against Oregon) where we bring pressure and we have enough guys to get to the QB and he gets the ball off in that one millisecond and we are this close to getting the ball knocked out. Like the (throw to Oregon TE David Paulson in the second quarter Saturday on third-and-25).

"There's a couple of plays like that could change the game, the third-down screen to (Ed Dickson). So you go back and look at the film and say 'maybe we are trying too hard, I don't know.' But it's still only Tuesday. I've got to figure that out by Friday.''

The focus in practice with the players is on seeing what some of the younger guys can do --- and experimenting with things like moving Anthony Boyles to cornerback --- as well as going back to work on fundamentals.

"We're kind of going back to some basics, some early installation stuff, some basic defensive and offensive plays so your young guys can get a lot of reps. We can get them on film so we can really evaluate them and get them caught up,'' Holt said.

Of you guys who aren't redshirting but haven't played much yet, Holt said the one who could see some significant action is linebacker Jordan Wallace. "He has some ability,'' Holt said. "He's a linebacker who can run.''

Asked his initial impressions of some of the other young players from Tuesday's practice, Holt said "our two young linebackers. Tim Tucker does some good things and Wallace does some good things. And our two young defensive ends (Talia Crichton and Andru Pulu), they are good players for true freshmen.'' He said those were the four that stuck out on Tuesday, adding that he doesn't consider Desmond Trufant a young player anymore now that he's entrenched as a starter.

WRIGHT NO LONGER LOOKING AT UW? --- Also today, Greg Biggins has an update on CB Demetrius Wright of Corona, Calif., who had been listing UW as one of his favorites but isn't any longer, now saying it's USC and Tennessee at the top.
