As noted earlier, SS Nate Williams and WR D'Andre Goodwin, who suffered concussions Saturday at Notre Dame, wore red jerseys today and did not practice.

When asked about them, coach Steve Sarkisian said: "Nate doesn't look like he'll be able to go. He just didn't test out well. D'Andre's actually testing better. But I think it'll be a case similar to what we did with Devin (Aguilar) in that we have so much depth at the receiver spot, he'll just be on emergency status for us.

(What kinds of test do they take?) There's a whole computerized testing format that I'm not smart enough to understand.

In other notes:

--- FS Greg Walker returned to practice after suffering a tweaked knee Wednesday. He participated in all the drills and will be able to play Saturday. He ran some with the first team alongside SS Victor Aiyewa. We asked Sarkisian if he plans to start Walker and Aiyewa and he said: "Well, you're going to see Nate Fellner. He's going to play, for sure."

--- RB Johri Fogerson has the flu and was not with the team. It's unknown whether he'll play Saturday. Said Sarkisian: "I think he'll be able to make it. We don't know. We just don't want to get anybody else on our team sick. So we're keeping him quarantined."

--- G Gregory Christine worked with the No. 1 offense and didn't seem bothered by ankle injuries.

(Is the team over the hangover from last week?) "I would assume so. The guys have practiced well; they've been upbeat. It's a tribute to our coaches. The coaches have done a really good job; they've been intense all week. Our guys realize that this is an opportunity in our conference to get to 2-1. It's a big game for us. We had to prepare really well, we had to practice really well, and come out and perform on Saturday night."

(How has the team performed against diverse offensive systems?) "We are all over, yeah. We've seen a lot of offense so far this year. But our guys do a good job. As long as we continue to create turnovers, like we've been doing, continue to hold people to field goals in the red zone, we'll be OK and we'll give the offense a chance."

(Are you preaching bend, but don't break?) "We just preach: 'Give us one more play.' Until the guy gets into the end zone, we get another snap to stop them, another stop to try to create a turnover. Our guys have bought into that philosophy: one more snap. Give us one more snap, we'll be OK."

(Where is the team at in the big picture since USC game?) "We're battling. Our guys are starting to understand the mental toughness it takes to battle week in and week out. And we're becoming a mentally tough football team. We've been through a lot of highs and lows and adversity already in a short amount of time this season, and our kids are starting to respond. I think they're starting to embody some of the characteristics of their coaches, which is what you want, and I think the mental toughness is showing up."

(The teams you played are 21-4 and the teams remaining are 19-13. Is that a misleading stat?) "No I think all of the five teams we played so far are really good. And 21-4 is a real stat."

(And on 19-13?) "I haven't looked at that. I just know Arizona's 3-1 and they're good."
