Time to clear out the mailbag a little more while we wait. Discussion below of Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, former players who are back this weekend, and more. ...

Q: Question regarding Daniel Te'o-Nesheim --- did you see him playing both end positions in camp (not talking about moving him inside)? Given LSU has one of the best left tackles in the college game (Ciron Black), I wonder if we might move DTN around to be both less predictable and more aggressive about getting DTN in the backfield to make plays.

A: Yes, he does flop from side to side based on calls and schemes, etc. Disguise is a big part of the new system being implemented by Nick Holt.
Players have talked often about how that will be a key, trying to confuse opponents and keep them off-balance.

The only bad news in Te'o-Nesheim's specific case Saturday is that LSU's other tackle --- Joseph Barksdale --- is also regarded as really darn good. So those will be tough matchups on either side Saturday. In fact, Holt said as much this week, predicting that DTN will likely go against each about half the time. "Both those guys are All-SEC guys so it really doesn't matter, quite honestly,'' Holt said. "Daniel's got to play well for us no matter who he (lines up) against.''

Holt further explained that the line is flopped "according to (play) calls'' and schemes, etc. However, he said it is not flopped to try to line up a specific player against another specific player. "We don't think about that stuff,'' he said.

Q: I've heard quite a few former players may be on the sidelines Saturday. Do you have a list?

A: I don't have a complete list --- it wold be hard to get one, anyway, since plans can change up until the last minute --- but word is that about 50 or so former players are expected on the sidelines Saturday. That's up from about 10 or so that typically were on the sidelines during the Tyrone Willingham era as Willingham simply didn't want that many people on the sidelines. New coach Steve Sarkisian is obviously familiar with the USC way of inviting just about anyone who can fit, so the sidelines will be more full now.

Maybe the most noteworthy player expected on the sidelines Saturday is Billy Joe Hobert, who hasn't attended a game at Husky Stadium since the events of 1992. Also expected to be in attendance are Corey Dillon, who will be honored as the Husky Legend, Tim Meamber, Jermaine Smith, Eric Battle, Pat Conniff, Kyle Benn, Lawyer Milloy, Jeff Jaeger, Hillary Butler, Omare Lowe, Tim Cowan, Cam Cleeland, Jason Chorak, Mark Bruener and Jabari Issa, just to name a few. Many of the players will congregate in a private tailgate area in the new Zone area prior to the game. Many are also playing in a Big W golf tournament today (Friday). UW officials say the exclusive tailgate area is all part of efforts designed to make the former players feel good about being around the program again, and ex-players seem to be responding.

Q: Are there any plans to honor former player Marquis Cooper or former coach Jim Owens, who each died in the last year, before or during the game Saturday?

A: UW officials say they thought about it but ultimately decided against any sort of public acknowledgment of their passings. The main issue is how do you decide who to honor? Ex-players and coaches and others affiliated with the program die every year and the school basically feels it should have some sort of remembrance for all or for none --- it's not really the school's place to say this guy was more worthy than that guy or something. And then the issue is whether a football game is the right place. Services were held for both Cooper and Owens in the area and there is also, obviously, a statue for Owens outside the stadium. Also, there was a moment of silence for Cooper at a basketball game in March just after the incident happened.
