Pac-10 extends deal with Las Vegas Bowl, lineup beginning to take shape

Posted by Bob Condotta

As mentioned last week when new Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott was in town, the bowl arrangements for the next cycle are beginning to be finalized.

Today, it's the Las Vegas Bowl announcing that it has a deal to get the No. 5 team from the Pac-10 for the years 2010-2013 to match against the No. 1 team from the Mountain West.

Last week, it was the Sun Bowl announcing that it will now have the No. 4 team from the Pac-10 against the No. 5 from the ACC for the same time period.

That appears to set the top five bowls for the Pac-10 for the years 2010-2013. No. 1 will be Rose/BCS. The No. 2 team will go to the Alamo (something the Times detailed in this story last week).

It's expected that the Pac-10 No. 3 team will go to the Holiday, which will move down a slot with the addition of the Alamo. The Sun is also moving down a slot with the addition of the Alamo. And No. 5 goes to Las Vegas. Still unclear is whether there will be bowl deals for teams after No. 5, though that seems likely.

That lineup will keep some of the conference's long-standing bowl arrangements while adding the Alamo, which will apparently increase the total bowl money to the conference by $5 million a year while also extending the conference into Texas.
