BIGGEST QUESTION? How will what may be UW's must unsettled position grouping shake out?

Along with the offensive line, this may be the area that has the most uncertainty heading into camp as just two starters appear pretty set --- Richardson at one corner and Williams at one safety spot, likely to be the strong but potentially at free depending who else emerges and what the coaches decide is the best fit.

Overall, this is obviously an area that needs a huge upgrade in performance --- UW has allowed 51 TD passes the last two seasons, by far the most in any two-year period in school history. (And yes, I'm aware not all the blame for that rests on the secondary as it needs help from a pass rush up front, etc. Still, that number is a decent indicator that this position needs some vast improvement).

The good news is that a few of these guys have at least played a significant amount though there is still some more youth here that will likely be forced to play than you would like.

Glenn earned a little of an upper hand at the other CB spot with a solid spring. DC Nick Holt said the other day that Glenn has impressed the new coaches with his knowledge of the defense and ability to be where he's needed to be. But Mosley and McDowell are sure to make big runs at that job, as well, especially if back to full health, which neither was in the spring.

Richardson appears set as the other corner.

While Williams has the upper hand at SS, that looms as a pretty competitive position with Aiyewa and Batts backing up. Batts, a JC transfer, will be particularly interesting to watch in the fall. Holt says he feels most comfortable at SS so that's where he will start. But should, say, he and Williams emerge as the two best safeties, then positions will be changed to get both in the lineup.

The move of Johri Fogerson back to tailback makes Walker the starter at free safety right now backed up by Logan, a converted WR who impressed in a brief showing in the spring. And I should have mentioned in the first writing that Jason Wells, coming off of knee and Achilles injuries, is listed as a free safety and will compete for time there, as well. Obviously, if his health can hold up he could be a big factor here though those are two pretty serious injuries he is attempting to overcome.

COMFORT LEVEL (On a scale of 1, which is the most comfortable, to 10, the least). 8.

This feels like the most uncertain position on the defense with even the seemingly established starters still having a lot to prove, and depth that dips fast into inexperience. This is where Holt will really earn his money this year.
