Another round. ...
Q: What are the chances EJ Savannah gets granted a sixth year of eligibility? Due to the lack of information and Tyrone Willingham's handling/mishandling of the situation, I could see a small/decent chance.
A: I'm learning not to say never as often as I used to on this question given how UW has gotten two sixth years in the past two seasons --- Juan Garcia and Trenton Tuiasosopo. Still, I'd see it really unlikely. Sixth years are almost always given for missing two straight years due to injury. Savannah sat out 2005 as a redshirt, due in part to an injury, but has said he was healthy enough to play last season (and obviously the missed years weren't consecutive, as was the case with both Garcia and Tuiasosopo). Savannah said before last spring he would explore options but would go into the year assuming the 2009 season will be his last. I haven't heard anything different since. For now, I wouldn't think it would happen.
Q: Are we going to get pictures on the blog this year?
A: That's the plan, and there are some changes being made to our blog format that may make it easier. But either way, I hope to have pictures on the blog this season. Maybe not with every entry or every day, but enough to liven it up some.
Q: With Terrance Dailey having left the team, I'm wondering, other than Corey Dillion not returning in 1997, who was the last Husky returning leading rusher with eligibility left that did not return to the team the following year? Was it Donnie Moore (1966?)?
A: Actually, looks like it happened a little more recently than that as the guy who answered Ron "Cookie'' Jackson on the comments thread got it right, as far as I can tell. After leading UW in rushing as a sophomore in 1981, Jackson sat out the 1982 season (apparently for academic reasons) then returned in 1983. In Jackson's absence, a sophomore named Jacque Robinson took over and led the Pac-10 in rushing with 976 yards. Jackson came back to letter in 1983 and 1984. We had this update on Jackson last year. Jackson also has a connection to the current Huskies as his nephew is Johri Fogerson.
