More on Potoa'e
Posted by Bob Condotta
As noted in the earlier item, another potentially pretty big UW recruiting story also began to develop yesterday as Lakes High defensive lineman Sione Potoa'e was offered by USC.
Potoa'e was the first player to commit to become part of UW's Class of 2010 under Steve Sarkisian (Zach Fogerson committed last fall to Tyrone Willingham and then recently recommitted), doing so in February.
But with schools like USC now showing serious interest, Potoa'e will explore his options, said Lakes High coach Dave Miller via e-mail today.
"He is still committed to UW, however, he will be taking some trips and considering a few other offers,'' Miller wrote. "Sione committed so very early in the recruiting process, even before the May junior evaluation period had begun. After seeing all of the opportunities that have materialized during the past month of May he realizes now that he owes it to himself to go through the process and make sure he ends up with the right fit by visiting three or four schools.''
Potoa'e is rated as the No. 8 defensive tackle prospect in the country by Scout.com.
Potoa'e is also listed as having offers from the likes of Cal, Oregon and Washington State. All verbal commitments are non-binding until letter-of-intents are signed in February.
