Monday morning notes

A couple quick notes this morning on Jake Locker and, well, Tyrone Willingham, whose name just keeps surfacing. ...
--- The Major League Baseball Draft begins June 9 and one of my favorite publications --- Baseball America --- has an interesting story on Locker in its pre-draft issue. I can't find an on-line link as I read it the old-fashioned way --- on paper. But the article is essentially about how Locker is one of the best prospects out there who is not playing the sport right.
The article quotes a scout taking in a UW-USC baseball game this season that Locker watched from the stands as saying "the best guy out here is the one that isn't playing. He wants to play football and, God bless him, that's his right. But he's got tools upon tools.''
The story continues with this paragraph: "Another scout said that if Locker focused on baseball, he could be a potential Hall of Famer.''
Locker is also quoted in the article, including on why he has decided not to play both sports at UW. :The reason I chose not to do both is because I wanted to give myself the best opportunity to be great at one thing. I didn't want to feel like I wasn't giving one sport everything I had. I didn't want to look back in 10 or 15 years and think 'Man, if I had just focused on that, where would I be right now?' Football's my first love, so I made the decision when I got here that I was going to devote everything I had to playing football and be the best player I could and then go from there.''
The story notes that Locker played a few weeks last summer in the West Coast College League and was named the No. 1 prospect in the league. Locker said this spring he won't play this summer and likely won't as long as he is playing football at UW. "For me, I have a different feeling when I put the pads on,'' he said in the Baseball America article. "There's a different attitude that comes with playing the game, an attitude that I've never taken in any other sport.''
--- Willingham, meanwhile, was named the No. 30 coach in the last 50 years of Pac-10 football by Nick Daschel of Buster Sports, who will count down the top 30 coaches in the conference all month. I'll leave all the commenting on that to you guys.
