Noteworthy
• This is the third straight year Marquette has been seeded sixth in the NCAA tournament. In 2008, the Eagles defeated No. 11 Kentucky in the first round before falling to No. 3 Stanford in overtime. Last year, Marquette knocked off No. 11 Utah State and lost to No. 3 Missouri in the second round. Marquette is making its fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament and 29th overall. The last time it missed the tourney was 2005.
• Before the season, Marquette lost three four-year starters who finished their careers among the top eight scorers in school history. The Golden Eagles were picked to finish 12th in the conference. They started Big East play 2-5 before winning 11 of their last 14 games.
• The Eagles are probably one of the shortest teams in the tournament and they play primarily a six-man rotation. At times coach Williams will use seven players, but never more than eight.
• Marquette defeated 10th-ranked Villanova, No. 22 Georgetown and No. 24 Xavier.
• Lazar Hayward was named second team All-Big East. No other Marquette player was given a postseason award.
• The Eagles are an outstanding three-point shooting team. All five starters shoot at least 34.5 percent. The Golden Eagles average 72.9 points and allow an average of 64.2.
