TEMPE, Ariz. — Kayli Murphy scored a career-high 16 points and went 5 for 6 from the free-throw line in overtime to help Arizona State beat the Washington women 67-61 on Thursday night.
Murphy added 11 rebounds for her third career double-double. She had three assists, three steals and a block as the Sun Devils (14-7, 6-4 Pac-10) won for the fifth time in six games.
Washington rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to force overtime. Laura McLellan, who led the Huskies with a season-high 18 points, missed an open jumper from the free-throw line with 8.8 seconds left that could have won the game in regulation.
Kristi Kingma had 11 points, while Huskies leading scorer Sami Whitcomb was held to 10.
"Laura was playing out of her mind. Just a huge, huge contribution," said Washington coach Tia Jackson.
Ultimately, the Huskies (9-11, 4-6) were undone by rebounding — particularly Arizona State's zeal on the offensive glass. The Sun Devils corralled 34 boards, 17 offensive, compared to just 24 for the Huskies.
The win gave Arizona State some revenge after the Huskies won the first meeting between the two teams 62-56 at Edmundson Pavilion last month.
"For us to be down 11 at half, on the road against a very good ASU team, for us to turn around and outscore them in the second half shows a lot about us as a team," said Jackson. "The unfortunate thing was the fact that we were minus-10 on the boards."
Washington center Regina Rogers suffered an apparent knee injury in the second half. No information on her status was made available after the game.
The Huskies did have a roster addition in Sara Mosiman, who had missed the last nine weeks after having a titanium rod inserted into her leg to alleviate shin splits.
It had been uncertain whether the senior guard, who played five minutes, would play again this season.
