The Washington women's basketball team easily won its final exhibition matchup, 106-34 against Corban College on Monday at Edmundson Pavilion.
The game looked more like a shoot-around for the Huskies. The Warriors couldn't get into their sets and were ineffective defensively against a bigger opponent. Offensively, the NAIA school was 1 for 19 from the field in the first half against Washington's zone defense, getting outrebounded 25-10 before the break.
The Huskies forced 25 turnovers, 16 in the first half, and held the Warriors to 18.4 percent shooting. Katie Steigleman led Corban with 16 points.
Washington's constant, aggressive defense translated into a breezy offense. The Huskies used their size, with 6-foot-3 sophomore center Regina Rogers finishing with 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting in the paint. But Sami Whitcomb, a 5-10 senior forward, was the real bully, active all over the court for a game-high 23 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
"We had a lot of fun out there," Washington coach Tia Jackson said. "We shared the ball extremely well."
Jackson played nearly her entire roster, including freshmen Jeneva Anderson and walk-on Amanda Johnson, and everyone scored. Forwards Liz Lay and Lydia Young sat out with knee injuries.
The Huskies, which defeated Seattle Pacific in their only other preseason game, open the regular season on Saturday at Portland State.
