UW targets six recruits on ESPN's list NEW - 5/24, 11:28 AM

About the Tigers — LSU has won two recent national titles, in 2003 under Nick Saban and in 2007 under current coach Les Miles. The Tigers were 8-5 last season and 3-5 in SEC play, their worst record in a decade. But with 13 returning starters — seven offense, six defense — and a remade defensive coaching unit, the Tigers are again a contender in the SEC. They were ranked No. 11 in the preseason AP poll.

Coach — Miles is in his fifth year at LSU and has a record of 42-11. He previously was coach at Oklahoma State and is 70-32 overall.

Series history — The teams have met just once, a 40-14 LSU win in Baton Rouge in 1983. UW came into that game ranked No. 9 in the country after beating Michigan the week before but was held to just 28 yards rushing — at the time, the lowest of the Don James era, which began in 1975.

Players to watch — QB Jordan Jefferson. Sophomore will be making his third start. He's an imposing presence (6 feet 5, 220 pounds) who can run well. C T-Bob Hebert. Sophomore is the son of former Saints QB Bobby Hebert. And yes, his name is T-Bob. RB Charles Scott. Burly runner (5-11, 233) was a first-team All-SEC pick last year.
