UW mens crew win third straight team IRA championship
With a final surge in the closing 100 meters, the University of Washington claimed the men's varsity eight title and propelled the Huskies to their third straight team title Saturday at the 107th Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships at Lake Natoma.

GOLD RIVER, Calif. — With a final surge in the closing 100 meters, the University of Washington claimed the men's varsity eight title and propelled the Huskies to their third straight team title Saturday at the 107th Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships at Lake Natoma.
Rowing on the inside lane of the six-boat final, Washington was victorious in 5 minutes, 50.9 seconds. Top-seeded California, which won its seminal by seven seconds in fastest time of the regatta Friday, faded from its early half-length lead and finished second in 5:51.8. Stanford finished third in 5:56.4
Earlier Saturday, on a final-day of the three-day regatta at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center, the Huskies won the varsity open fours (6:35.48), freshman varsity eight (5:50.68) and the second varsity eight (5:51.46). Washington also finished second to California in the varsity fours (6:34.00).
With its four victories, Washington easily claimed the team competition, but official points total weren't yet available.
