Play our men's college basketball bracket contest.
College football coaching changes inevitably result in some attrition, and after four months, the Washington Huskies and new coach Steve Sarkisian finally suffered some Wednesday.
Sarkisian announced after practice that running back Terrance Dailey would not be back with the team after failing to meet academic requirements and that offensive lineman Allen Carroll had left the team because he "decided that he's not going to play football anymore."
Dailey, of Vacaville, Calif., was the team's leading rusher last season with 338 yards as a true freshman. But he hadn't participated in any of spring practice while battling a shoulder injury and then sitting out with what Sarkisian said were academic issues. UW still has seven players on the roster competing for the starting tailback job.
Carroll, a native of Oakland, Calif., redshirted last fall as a freshman and was in contention early in spring for a backup job but had not been practicing the last week while Sarkisian said he battled academic issues.
Huskies will scrimmage
for Spring Game
Sarkisian had worried earlier there might not be enough healthy players to have a real contest for Saturday's annual Spring Game. But he said enough players are still standing to play a game. The only real concession is that there will be no live kicking, all punts simply placed 40 yards downfield and kickoffs placed on the 20. He said he hadn't yet decided on how the teams will be split up. The free Spring Game begins at 1 p.m. at Husky Stadium.
