HOUSTON — Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Reggie Williams, a former Washington Huskies standout, was charged with driving under the influence and possession of marijuana after being arrested during a traffic stop at about 2 a.m. Friday.
John Cannon, Houston police-department spokesman, said the 25-year-old Williams was arrested after officers smelled alcohol on his breath and a "strong odor" of marijuana in his vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a small amount of marijuana in its console, Cannon said.
The Houston Chronicle reported Williams was free on $1,000 bond. Both charges are Class B misdemeanors and carry maximum sentences of six months in jail.
Williams, a graduate of Lakes High School in Lakewood, was the ninth player taken in the 2004 NFL draft.
The 6-foot-4, 212-pound Williams, who is expected to leave the Jaguars as a free agent, has 189 receptions for 2,322 yards (a 12.3 average) and 18 touchdowns in his five pro seasons.
Last year, he caught 37 passes for 364 yards (a career-low 9.8 average) and three touchdowns.
