Washington's running back position could be buoyed next season by the return of an old face — Curtis Shaw.
Shaw's father, Derrick, said Thursday night that his son will re-enroll at UW in January after taking this season off for personal reasons.
When he returns, he hopes to play running back, the position he played at UW in 2007 before switching to receiver, according to his father.
Shaw left the team in August to return to his home in Stockton, Calif., for what his father said were "some serious family issues here." He came back to UW in late September with his father and met with former coach Tyrone Willingham and AD Scott Woodward and got the OK to return to the team after the season. Derrick Shaw said those plans have been reaffirmed since the hiring of new coach Steve Sarkisian.
Pola, Loeffler to fill coaching spots?
Rumors circulated that Sarkisian might have settled on current NFL assistants — Kennedy Pola and Scot Loeffler — as running backs coach and quarterbacks coach.
Pola, currently with the Jacksonville Jaguars, is a former assistant at Colorado and USC, where he worked with Sarkisian. Loeffler was QB coach at Michigan from 2002-07 before going to the Detroit Lions.
Note
• Internet reports that Josh Moten, a quarterback/athlete from Narbonne High in Harbor City, Calif., has committed to UW seem to be premature. Moten told The Times he won't commit until after visiting UW and that he is likely to take a trip to Colorado.
