UW vs. Arizona preview

D'Andre Goodwin is listed as probable today.

D'Andre Goodwin is listed as probable today.

At stake: Probably the last realistic chance for the Huskies to keep hope alive. Washington hasn't been 0-5 since 1969, and a similar start this year could have dire consequences for coach Tyrone Willingham. Arizona is hoping to take another step closer to bowl eligibility and stay atop the Pac-10.

What to expect: The Wildcats have one of the most explosive offenses in the Pac-10, throwing a conference-high 11 TD passes. QB Willie Tuitama is throwing for 253.3 yards per game. Arizona will test the Huskies through the air often, mixing in runs to RB Nic Grigsby (averaging 5.6 yards per carry). The Huskies will have a different look with Ronnie Fouch taking over at QB for injured Jake Locker. Expect more passing out of three-receiver sets, and maybe more between-the-tackles running with a lot less QB runs out of the spread option.

Notes: The road team has won the past four games in this series, Arizona taking a 48-41 win in Seattle last year after rallying from a 15-point deficit early in the fourth quarter. UW won in Arizona in 2005 (38-14) and 2006 (21-10). ... The Huskies are the only team in the nation without a sack. On the plus side, UW is one of just three teams yet to throw an interception (Florida and Vanderbilt are the others). ... Washington has scored TDs on nine of 12 trips inside an opponent's 20-yard line. Opponents are doing just as well, though, scoring TDs 14 times in 17 tries. ... Arizona WR Terrell Reese is back after missing the past two games while suspended for a DUI arrest. ... Arizona is coming off a bye. It had to remake its offensive line during that time after losing starting center Blake Kerley for the season to a knee injury. ... Arizona WR Mike Thomas leads the Pac-10 with 104.2 receiving yards per game. UW's D'Andre Goodwin is second at 78.8.

Injuries: UW — RB Chris Polk (shoulder), out for season; QB Jake Locker (thumb), WR Chancellor Young (knee), S Jason Wells (knee), S Darin Harris (concussion), CB Byron Davenport (ankle) out. S Johri Fogerson (ankle), RB David Freeman (ankles) questionable. WR D'Andre Goodwin (ribs), LB Donald Butler (concussion) probable. Arizona — C Blake Kerley (knee) out. LB Xavier Kelley (sprained ankle) questionable.

Prediction: There's little realistic reason to think UW can stop Arizona's high-flying offense, and while Fouch shows signs of promise, who knows what to expect of the Locker-less offense? Arizona 48, UW 24.
