Brian White, who last year was the offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at Syracuse, has been hired to fill one of the two assistant-coaching vacancies on Washington's staff, a source close to the situation confirmed Thursday.

An announcement could come today.

White will be special-teams/tight-ends coach; the team still lacks a running-backs coach.

White was fired at the conclusion of last season after the Orange finished 2-10, including a 42-12 loss to the Huskies in the season opener.

White was co-offensive coordinator and running-backs coach at Wisconsin from 1999 to 2005 and running-backs coach from 1995 to 1998. Wisconsin running back Ron Dayne won the Heisman Trophy in 1999, a season the Badgers played a Stanford team coached by Tyrone Willingham in the Rose Bowl.
