Cody Bruns, the record-setting receiver from Prosser, gave a verbal commitment Monday to play football for Washington.
He confirmed his decision Monday night in an interview with the Yakima Herald-Republic. Bruns said he told Washington coaches about his decision Monday.
Bruns had narrowed his choices to Washington and Washington State, but said Monday the timing had nothing to do with WSU's decision not to have Bill Doba return as coach.
Bruns set a national high-school record for career receptions last weekend. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound senior wide receiver has 304 catches for 5,080 yards and 72 touchdowns. His TD receptions rank second all-time and his receiving yardage is third. He needs two TD receptions to tie the record and plays his final high-school game Saturday at 10 a.m. when Prosser plays Burlington-Edison for the Class 2A state championship.
