Preview | UW (2-6) vs. Stanford (3-5)

3:30 p.m. at Stanford Stadium, Palo Alto, Calif.

TV: FSN Radio: KJR (950 AM)

The line: Washington by 3

At stake: Washington has to win out to achieve its preseason goals of a winning record and a bowl game. Stanford also has an outside shot at both of those goals.

What to expect: This could be a shootout as the two defenses are ranked ninth (Stanford) and 10th (UW) in the Pac-10. On the other hand, the two also are ranked ninth (UW) and 10th (Stanford) in offense. But Washington appears to be finding its offense a bit, scoring 75 points the past two games, and should be able to hit some big plays on the Cardinal, which likes to blitz.

Notes: Stanford has won the past two in the series, including 20-3 last year at Husky Stadium. It hasn't won three in a row since taking 10 consecutive from 1967 to 1976. ... UW coach Tyrone Willingham was 44-36-1 as the head coach at Stanford from 1995 to 2001. He is 3-1 against Stanford, all three victories coming while at Notre Dame. ... Stanford is one of just three Pac-10 teams Willingham has a winning record against (Cal 7-2, Washington State 7-3 the others). ... UW QB Jake Locker has 694 rushing yards and needs just 4 today to pass Dennis Fitzpatrick (1974) for the most in a season by a Husky QB.

Injuries: Washington — FS Jason Wells (knee), LB Donald Butler (knee), WR Quintin Daniels (knee) out; DT Wilson Afoa (shoulder) probable.

Stanford: RB Toby Gerhart (knee), RB Anthony Kimble (knee), LB Fred Campbell (neck), TE Jim Dray (knee), OL Allen Smith (knee) out; WR Mark Bradford (knee, quad), LB Pat Maynor (pinched nerve) probable.

Prediction: The Huskies have lost six in a row for the third consecutive year. The previous two times, the streak ended with a road victory. Guess here is it happens again as the Huskies' rapidly improving offense should score enough to pick up the slack for a struggling defense. UW 38, Stanford 31.
