At stake: Washington will try to avoid a four-game skid and an 0-3 Pac-10 record that would put a huge crimp in its bowl-qualifying hopes. Arizona State will attempt to go to 7-0 for the seventh time in school history and first since 1996.

What to expect: Arizona State will try to wear down the Huskies with its veteran offensive line and big RB Ryan Torain, while picking its spots to unleash the arm of QB Rudy Carpenter. The Huskies will likely to try establish more of an overall offense instead of just relying on the legs of QB Jake Locker. They are expected to use some tailbacks other than just Louis Rankin in an attempt to get the running game going. Arizona State will undoubtedly load up against the run to force Locker to throw.

Notes: Washington leads the series 15-11, including 8-7 in Tempe. Arizona State has won the last two in Tempe, however, in 2002 and 2005. ASU has won the last three against UW overall, including 26-23 in overtime in Seattle last season. ASU coach Dennis Erickson is 2-5 against the Huskies (1-1 at Washington State, 0-1 at Miami, 1-3 at Oregon State). UW coach Tyrone Willingham is 4-5 against ASU. Arizona State leads the Pac-10 in scoring defense, allowing just 14.2 points per game. Freshman PK Thomas Weber is 11 for 11 on field goals this year and took over punting duties last week.

Injuries: UW — FS Jason Wells (knee) out. ASU — DT Saia Falahola (triceps), TE Brent Miller (knee) out.

Prediction: This looms as a critical game for UW's postseason hopes, especially with a home game with Oregon on deck next Saturday. The Huskies figure to be as refreshed and ready to go as they have been all season, which should help keep it close. Home-field advantage and ASU's running game will be the difference. ASU 31, UW 24.
