Brandon Roy says he's sure this time.
Roy, who a few weeks ago said a decision on his future was imminent, said yesterday he will make an announcement Monday.
Indications were growing yesterday that Roy will stay at UW for his senior season and won't attend the Chicago pre-draft camp.
Roy has been considering whether to apply for the NBA draft so he can attend the Chicago camp or simply announce now that he will return. If he declared for the draft, he has said he would not hire an agent so he would have the option of returning.
But Roy has also said he didn't want to do that if his right knee, which bothered him all season after he tore the meniscus in November, wasn't recovered.
Roy wouldn't elaborate yesterday, saying he would answer questions Monday.
If Roy does return, it would leave just one major personnel question unanswered for the Huskies — Seattle Prep's Martell Webster. Webster signed with UW but is considering applying for the NBA draft after impressive performances at several national all-star games.
The prevailing thought is that Webster is likely to turn pro, especially if he is a likely lottery selection. A mock draft on nbadraft.net yesterday predicted Webster would be picked No. 12 by Orlando.
Note
• Washington assistant Ken Bone said yesterday he will interview today for the vacant head-coaching position at Portland State. He said the trip would serve largely as a fact-finding mission so he can determine his interest.
Portland State officials also had contacted UW assistant Jim Shaw about the vacancy, created when Heath Schroyer left to become associate head coach at Fresno State. But Shaw said yesterday he has had no further discussions with the school and that he doesn't anticipate being a candidate.
