Washington (3-1) led by as many as 20 points in the second half, but a late 13-3 surge by the Panthers (0-3) closed the gap to 71-66 with just under seven minutes to play. Then back-to-back baskets by Nicole Castro and Craddock pushed the lead back to 10. Teri Huff scored a game-high 21 points and Aubrey Hampton added 16 points for the Panthers, who had never played Washington before. Jill Bell and Breanne Watson added 10 points each for Washington. The Huskies led 43-26 at halftime. Fifteen first-half turnovers by the Panthers led to 14 Washington points. Washington had just three turnovers in the first half. Earlier Friday, Alabama defeated Columbia 81-45 behind Navonda Moore's 16 points. Wisconsin-Milwaukee will play Columbia in Saturday's early game. Washington will then play Alabama in the championship game. Copyright © 2004 The Seattle Times Company
