Monday, March 01, 2004 - Page updated at 12:09 P.M. Architects' visions: home designs in 2024
Local architects have imagined the home of the future and it is not the Jetsons' space pad. True, their visions of the "Home of the Year 2024" assume environmental, demographic, political, economic and technical changes over the next 20 years. But these changes are not reflected by aluminum domes and automatic dog-walkers. Rather, they play out in unique building materials, styles and features. Here is a look in the architects' words at a few of the 15 or so entries submitted to the Seattle chapter of the American Institute of Architects for the 50th anniversary of the Seattle Times/AIA Open House program. More entries are available through a link on the institute's Web site, www.aiaseattle.org, and all will be presented at the Home of the Year awards program on March 12 and at the AIA Seattle Gallery through March.
