Keeping an eye on security

Detroit Free Press

Like to keep an eye on things around the house? Take a peek at the MailboxCam, a wireless-remote camera that allows homeowners to monitor their property, inside or outside.

The camera was invented by Scott Jezierski, who developed the product for his wife's grandfather, an 88-year-old who would make several trips up and down the stairs of his apartment building each day to check for mail delivery.

Jezierski, president of Wireless Imaging in Lino Lakes, Minn., built a camera that allowed people to check their TV screen to see if mail was in the box.

From there, the camera morphed into a gadget that could be used to monitor sleeping infants, doorways, driveways, yards and more. The camera can operate for several months on a pair of AA batteries.

The user is able to turn the MailboxCam on and off with a remote control. The wireless video and audio signal carries nearly 300 feet, according to the manufacturer. A built-in timer ensures that the camera is not accidentally left on.

The MailboxCam sells for $199.95 and is available at www.wirelessimaging.com or by calling 800-676-3402.
