Silvertips can't erase early deficit, lose to Spokane Chiefs

SPOKANE — The Everett Silvertips allowed three first-period goals — all on power plays — on the way to dropping their Western Hockey League playoff opener, 5-2 to the Spokane Chiefs on Friday.
Everett, which trails in the best-of-seven series 1-0, got goals from Matt Ius in the second period and Jonathan Harty in the third.
Silvertips goalie Leland Irving was pulled in the second period after allowing four goals on 19 shots. Backup Shayne Barrie made several terrific saves to keep Everett in the game, finishing with 24 saves on 25 shots.
Everett was 1 for 3 on the power play, while Spokane was 4 for 8.
