SPOKANE — The Everett Silvertips withstood 35 shots on goal and hung on to defeat the Spokane Chiefs, 2-1, Friday night.
Goalkeeper Leland Irving's 34 saves paced the Silvertips (35-25-0-3), who remained in sixth place in the WHL Western Conference.
Left winger Lukas Vartovnik scored the game-winning goal at the 9:07 mark of the third period, putting the Tips ahead 2-0. Judd Blackwater put in a short-handed goal with 1:20 left in the game, but the Chiefs ran out of time.
