Josh Smith picks UCLA
Posted by Mason Kelley
Josh Smith is going to UCLA. The Kentwood big man decided Monday he will play for the Bruins next year, instead of staying close to home and playing for the Huskies.
Here is a story from our own Sandy Ringer: click here.

Final state girls soccer rankings
Posted by Joshua Mayers
I thought we might have a crazy week leading up to the state tournaments, and boy did we.
Some quality, quality sides (Everett, Woodinville, Mead, Mount Spokane) had their seasons end short of the round of 16. The result? I think the brackets are wide open -- the 4A one was anyway and 3A foes won't miss the Seagulls, who tore through the competition last year.
Action starts tomorrow night where nearly half the teams left will be eliminated. There are certainly a lot of eye-catching first-round matchups and some great soccer is waiting to be played.
In this final edition of the state rankings I will rank the remaining 16 teams left in each classification. Similar to how we ranked our football teams this week and how we've done this in the past.
Tomorrow I will have a prediction post, where I pick the winners of all the games, including a state champion.
If you notice any inaccurate win-loss records, please let me know. Records are compiled by coach reports, media reports and the WIAA website. Let me know your thoughts. Any favorites or sleepers out there?

Final high-school football rankings
Posted by Mason Kelley
It doesn't seem possible. Just like that, we're into the first round of the playoffs. Only 16 teams left in 4A and 3A. Instead of a top 10, I ranked all 16 teams in each classification.
There aren't many changes in the top 10.
4A
After winning a three-way playoff and knocking off Wenatchee, Ferris jumps into the No. 10 spot. Marysville-Pilchuck, Bethel and Eisenhower all jump up one spot.
There are some interesting matchups in the round of 16, starting with Marysville-Pilchuck at Auburn. Both teams are undefeated. Both teams have strong running games. The Trojans played well without Chris Young last week. It will be interesting to see of they can slow down the Tomahawks' ground game.
No. 2 Skyline has to play No. 6 South Kitsap on the road and Issaquah travels to No. 4 Jackson. The Timberwolves looked good against their first KingCo 4A playoff opponent in Eastlake. We'll see how they matchup against the Eagles.
The winner of that game looks to get No. 1 Bothell in the quarterfinals. At this point, the Blue Train is the favorite to win it all.
3A
After an impressive come-from-behind victory over Peninsula, Glacier Peak jumps to No. 9. The Grizzlies put up huge numbers. Quarterback Zach Richter completed 34 of 56 passes for 455 yards and six touchdowns. He didn't throw an interception.
They were down 35-13 with 3:45 left in the third quarter and rallied for a win. With the victory, Glacier Peak travels to No. 7 Timberline.
Capital claimed the final spot in the top 10 and gets to travel to No. 4 Union.
Mount Si get to play top-ranked Bellevue for the second time this year and, after edging Camas, No. 3 Liberty has to play No. 5 O'Dea at Seattle Memorial.
There are plenty of exciting matchups this week and we'll have more on those games throughout the week.
4A
1. Bothell (10-0)
2. Skyline (Sammamish) (8-2)
3. Auburn (10-0)
4. Jackson (Mill Creek) (10-0)
5. Curtis (University Place) (10-0)
6. South Kitsap (Port Orchard) (10-0)
7. Marysville-Pilchuck (10-0)
8. Bethel (Graham) (9-0)
9. Eisenhower (Yakima) (10-0)
10. Ferris (Spokane) (7-3)
11. Skyview (Vancouver) (8-2)
12. Issaquah (7-3)
13. Southridge (Kennewick) (9-1)
14. Kamiakin (Kennewick) (8-2)
15. Rogers (Puyallup) (7-3)
16. Central Kitsap (Silverdale) (7-3)
3A
1. Bellevue (8-2)
2. Lakes (Lakewood) (10-0)
3. Liberty (Issaquah) (9-1)
4. Union (Vancouver) (9-1)
5. O'Dea (9-1)
6. Meadowdale (Lynnwood) (10-0)
7. Timberline (Lacey) (10-0)
8. Mount Spokane (9-1)
9. Glacier Peak (Snohomish) (8-2)
10. Capital (Olympia) (7-3)
11. Mount Si (Snoqualmie) (6-4)
12. Ferndale (8-2)
13. Lindbergh (Renton) (9-1)
14. North Thurston (Lacey) (7-3)
15. Columbia River (Vancouver) (5-5)
16. Hanford (4-6)
