Bellevue's Sean Constantine talks about Washington offer

Posted by Mason Kelley

Sean Constantine called Saturday "one of the most exciting days of my life."

Bellevue's standout linebacker was at Husky Stadium to watch the Huskies' 40-32 win over Hawaii. But his excitement was created long before the two teams took the field, because Washington coach Steve Sarkisian extended a scholarship offer to the 6-foot-2, 218-pound junior before the game.

"It was a relief," Constantine said. "All the stuff I've worked through. All the stuff I'm trying to get to, it just came together. (The hard work) it's actually paying off in the long run. It's breathtaking."

It was the first Division I offer for Constantine, who has been a force so far this season with 13 tackles through the Wolverines' first two games. He has three tackles for loss, three pass break-ups and a 45-yard interception for a touchdown.

He's accomplished all that, despite suffering a thigh contusion early in the game against Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.) in Week 1 that left him hobbled.

His first scholarship offer is only pushing him to get better.

"It's raised the bar for my game, because now I know I'm a D-I prospect," Constantine said. "I feel like I need to raise my game."

The Wolverines are 2-0 after wins against the Lions, a California power, and Skyline, ranked No. 1 in 4A. Throw in the Washington offer and the 2011 season is off to a great start for Constantine.

"We won the first two games and we've just been grinding and grinding all summer," Constantine said. "This me stuff, with the UW and this offer, that's worked out, too, but I've still got to stay focused on football in general at the high-school level and keep working to win Interlake next week and Lake Washington."

It originally read 281 lbs, hence the post. 218lbs makes more sense.  Posted on September 16, 2011 at 1:01 PM by Gunndawg. Jump to comment
