Central Kitsap's Drew Vettleson named Gatorade POY

Central Kitsap's Drew Vettleson named the 2009-10 Gatorade Washington Baseball Player of the Year.

In addition to hitting .490 with seven home runs, 28 RBIs and a 1.137 slugging percentage, the ambidextrous outfielder and pitcher went 3-2 with two saves and a 1.35 ERA.

One of the state's top prospects, Vettleson struck out 71 in 41 1/3 innings.

"Drew Vettleson is one of the best pure hitters I've ever seen at this level," Central Kitsap coach Bill Baxter said in a press release. "He has so much talent as a baseball player and works extremely hard to make himself better."
