High-school softball rankings -- Week 3

Posted by Sandy Ringer

Now that we are done with the various spring breaks, we should see more softball action this week -- if the weather cooperates.

We have a little movement in both polls today. That doubleheader between Walla Walla and Southridge, then 2-3 in Class 4A, went Walla Walla's way. Then Southridge split with Wenatchee. So the Suns fall to No. 10 and Tahoma makes its first-ever appearance in the state rankings, coming in at No. 9.

This is a program that really struggled not so many years ago, and coach Tom Milligan (a former Tahoma baseball player) has done a really nice job with the Bears. They are 7-0 in SPSL 4A North play and have handed Kentlake its lone loss. The only blemish on Tahoma's record is a 2-0 loss back in mid-March.

Jackson remains next in line at 6-0.

In 3A, Sedro-Woolley lost to Burlington-Edison, a very good 2A team, while Everett fell to 4A Marsyville-Pilchuck. So both drop a bit in this week's poll. East Valley of Spokane dropped three in a row to fall to 2-6, so is out of the poll. Shadle Park (4-4) looks like the 3A team to beat over in the GSL, but the Highlanders remain on the watch list.

Prairie also drops out after a loss to Battle Ground (4A), so West Valley of Yakima and Kennedy Catholic jump in the top-10. Kennedy should be playing No. 8 Mount Rainier right now, so I'll be anxious to hear how that one goes.

I think we'll know more about a lot of teams after this week, and please feel fee to share your thoughts about these:
