More information on the King Holiday Hoopfest
Posted by Mason Kelley
Here is a press release about the 2010 King Holiday Hoopfest:
A collection of the top high school boys and girls basketball teams will meet in the annual King Holiday Hoopfest, Presented by Comcast. The event will feature seven high school basketball games in one day and is set for Monday, Jan. 18, 2010 at the University of Washington’s Bank of America Arena.
The headline matchup features a battle between the state champions of Washington and Oregon as Federal Way takes on Jefferson from Portland. Federal Way won last year’s Class 4A state championship and is ranked No. 1 in the state and also ranked nationally by several polls. Jefferson won the Oregon Class 4A state title and is led by national recruit Terrence Jones, who is being sought by many NCAA Division 1 programs in the country. That game will tip off at 6 p.m.
Some of the top Class 3A teams in Washington are also on the schedule as second-ranked Bellevue will go up against third-ranked Enumclaw at 7:30 p.m. and top-ranked Rainier Beach will face Class 4A Decatur at 4 p.m.
Other games include Franklin of Seattle against Grant of Portland at 2:30 p.m.; Skyline takes on Garfield at 12:30; King’s matches up with defending Class 1A state champion Vashon Island at 9:30 a.m. and the defending Class 4A state champs Kentwood meeting White River.
Tickets are $10 and $5 for students and seniors and are available at the door. The event will honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King and features a tribute at 2:30 p.m.
