Inglemoor's Travis Bogard turned Web site into scholarship
Posted by Mason Kelley
In Inglemoor's final football game of the season, senior Travis Bogard caught the attention of a parent in the stands.
The father of one of Eastlake's players was so taken with the lineman he called a coach at Wyoming and suggested he take a look at the 6-foot-4, 270-pound teenager nicknamed "The Beast."
"The coach called me up and he said, 'can I get film on you?'" Bogard said, looking back on one of the best phone calls he's ever received.
When the coach asked for video, Bogard simply directed him to his Web site: travisjbogard.com.
"He did and it wasn't more than a week later that I had a full-ride offer," Bogard said. "It was an amazing deal going on right there."
For Bogard, the recruiting process started with his Web site. He heard it was the best way to get his name out there so, with the help of Inglemoor wrestling coach Kevin Corbett, he created his own scholarship campaign complete with video highlights that created a one-stop shop for recruiters looking for a lineman.
"It's amazing," Bogard said. "I can't imagine what it would be like not having it now. I went down to camps at Oregon State and camps at UW over the summer. I took cards out with me with my number and my Web site on there. It looked really nice and impressed some people with that. It's helped out a lot. It's really neat to be able to tell people the story. I keep trying to give a lot of credit to my wrestling coach, because he's helped me a lot throughout the whole recruiting process. It's been really awesome."
Now, thanks to an impressive senior season and a lift from the Web site, Bogard plans to sign with the Cowboys on signing day Feb. 3. He will join Issaquah's Daniel Fleischman, who has also committed to play in Laramie, Wyo.
