Christensen named Shorecrest football coach
Posted by Darren Fessenden
As previously reported last week (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/highschoolsportsblog/2010312722_shorecrest_football_coach_step.html), long-time Shorecrest assistant Brandon Christensen will replace Mike Wollan as the school's football coach.
The Shoreline School District officially announced the hire today, in the wake of Wollan's recent resignation after nine seasons -- all of which came with Christensen as his defensive coordinator. Wollan, who is hoping to be an offensive coordinator somewhere next year, cited his commute and work schedule during the season as two primary reasons for his resignation.
Christensen was a three-sport athlete (football, wrestling and baseball) at Kamiak High and a 1996 graduate. He was an NAIA All-American linebacker at Central Washington University.
Christensen, who will enter his sixth season as the Scots' head track and field coach this spring, has taught physical education and health at Shorecrest since 2000.
He inherits a 3-7 team (1-3 Wesco 3A) that returns first-team all-league linebacker Dom Donaghy, second-team offensive lineman Dorjee Mingure, honorable-mention selection Jack Bergthold - all juniors -- and 6-2, 250-pound sophomore lineman Ian Bolstad (also honorable mention). Both quarterbacks (junior Michael Johnson and sophomore Ted Hammond) also return, along with second-leading receiver Dillon Baker (voted the team's Most Improved player).
