Jackson's Riley Carr chooses Air Force

Jackson senior Riley Carr verbally committed to Air Force on Sunday, and was told that he'd play fullback. This was one of the selling points for Carr, who mentioned that other schools a) don't utilize the fullback position like Air Force does and b) were mostly looking at him as a linebacker.

"Their fullback is often their leading rusher and leading carrier," he said. "So it's going to be pretty exciting to know I'll get the ball a lot."

The Colorado Springs campus was another big draw. Carr and his family attended Air Force's 10-0 home win over Wyoming on Sept. 17: "I loved it there," said Carr, who bench presses 365 pounds and has a top squat of 490 pounds.

The Falcons (7-5, 5-3 Mountain West) suffered their only league losses to the league's three ranked teams: TCU, Utah and BYU. Air Force was actually the last team to come within four touchdowns of the No. 4 Horned Frogs, when it lost 20-17 on Oct. 10.

So Carr knows that he's not only headed to a prestigious academic school, but a legit football program -- and one that loves to run the football in their triple-option offense.

Often working out of the Wildcat formation, the 6-foot, 225-pounder tallied 16 rushing touchdowns and seven receiving touchdowns this season. A two-way Wesco South first-team selection, Carr is a four-year starter at linebacker and had four interceptions this year for the South champions.
