Graham-Kapowsin offense has Tomahawks' attention
Posted by Darren Fessenden
Marysville-Pilchuck coach Brandon Carson, who served as defensive coordinator for seven seasons at Granite Falls and M-P before being named head coach prior to the 2007 campaign, will likely call upon this defensive acumen for Saturday's contest against Graham-Kapowsin (6-3) in Snohomish.
"We've got to play some pretty good defense because Graham-Kapowsin is really explosive offensively," Carson said.
Besides the fact that the Eagles are so incredibly balanced (more than 1,500 yards rushing and passing), Carson also mentioned the deceiving nature of their record. G-K's losses -- all in the South Puget Sound League South Division -- were by single digits to No. 5 Curtis, No. 9 Bethel and playoff-bound Rogers.
"They've had a chance in every game," said Carson, who is 18-1 the past two years.
Fortunately for No. 8 M-P (9-0), it has a lights-out defense that has surrended just 15.5 points per Wesco North game and is led by brothers and middle linebackers Siti and Suli Tamaivena. Carson said both are hard-hitting and ballhawks: "They've got a knack for the football, and are talented kids that we're glad to have in the program."
Kickoff at Veterans Memorial Stadium -- the Tomahawks can't host playoff games because their stadium doesn't have field turf -- is slated for 7 p.m.
