SPSL wants to hear more about Federal Way investigation

Posted by Sandy Ringer

The South Puget Sound League wants some additional information and clarifications regarding the independent investigation the Federal Way School District completed last week looking into grade changes made for a former Federal Way High School student and basketball player.

The nine-day investigation, handled by an attorney hired by the school district, concluded there was no wrong-doing in the grade changes.

A special committee of SPSL athletic directors met last Friday to hear details of the report and ask questions, but some details were not immediately available as Fedreral Way athletic director Miguel Perez was unable to attend.

Rick Wells, president of the SPSL ADs and a member of the special committee, reported to the SPSL Principals Association today. According to Curtis principal Dave Hammond, president of the principals' group, the special committee wants clarification on some dates and other information not included in the report.

With all of the post-season events going on this week, the principals gave the special committe until the start of the basketball season (turnouts begin Nov. 16) to reconvene with Fedreal Way representatives, this time including Perez. Wells will report back to the principals at their Dec. 7 meeting.

We have reported extensively on this situation since it broke last month. You can read the latest story, which ran last week with details about the investigation, here.
