So, what happens when you win a volleyball tournament with a quality field like the Bearcat Invitational last Saturday?

You jump into the top-10, that's what.

Welcome Kamiak, now No. 10 in this week's Class 4A poll. I've had the Knights on my watch list all season and they appear to be peaking at the right time. They take Monroe's spot after the host Bearcats finished sixth in the tourney, losing to a nail-biter to Edmonds-Woodway in bracket play (30-28, 18-25, 16-14) and then to Archbishop Murphy (25-21, 25-18).

Kamiak -- which has a key WesCo match with previously ranked Jackson on Thursday -- beat E-W in the quarterfinals (21-25, 25-21, 15-8) and topped Eastside Catholic in the title match (25-13, 25-23). Eastside, which was missing two key starters for the tournament, stays at No. 3 in Class 3A. The Crusaders square off with No. 4 Seattle Prep on Wednesday.

Olympia solidified its No. 2 ranking, in my eyes, by winning the Capital City Invitational. The Bears were also without two key players, but took the top spot in their pool and then topped Kentwood (2-1 -- sorry, I don't have the scores) and Puyallup (2-1) before taking down Selah in the championship match, 25-21, 27-25.

Olympia closes out Narrows League play this week with two tough matches against Central Kitsap and Gig Harbor, which is 12-0 (withouth tournament play included).

Speaking of tough matches, there's a hot one tonight in KingCo 4A as Issaquah faces Bothell. Both have lost only to Woodinville, which remains unbeaten in league play.

And here's one a lot of people have been waiting for: No. 3 Graham-Kapowsin at No. 4 Curtis in a SPSL 4A South Division showdown tomorrow night. G-K won 3-1 last month, when the teams met in a nonleague match.

As for the 3A rankings, no changes this week. No. 8 Auburn Mountainview won its own tournament last Saturday, although the field was not especially strong (no other ranked teams). The Lions beat Timberline of British Columbia 2-0 in the title match.

Playoffs are just around the corner, and then we'll see who the best teams really are (or at least who's playing the best when it counts).
