Class 4A

Duran Ward, Todd Beamer track and field: Ward, a senior, won state championships in the 100 (10.81 seconds, a photo finish), 200 (21.79), and the 400 relay (42.17). The Titans placed second in team scoring.

Andrea Geubelle, Curtis track and field: Geubelle, a senior, was the state champion in the long-jump (19-4), triple jump (40-11.75) and the 100 (11.87). Her scores helped the Vikings to an overall second place finish.Her marks for the triple jump and long jump were fourth-best in the nation.

Class 3A

Rashaun Johnson, Foster track and field: Johnson, a junior, took first place finishes in the 300 hurdles (38.8) and 400 relay (42.53) at the state championships. Johnson also placed second in the 110 high hurdles (14.48) and third in the 200 (21.95). His team placed third in the overall scoring and Johnson had 26 out of the Bulldogs' 37.5 points.

Germe Poston, Franklin-Pierce track and field: Poston, a junior, broke two state records in the 100 (11.63) and 200 (24.04) at the state championships.

Class 2A

Matt Rawitzer, Squalicum golf: Rawitzer, a senior, was 8 under par for a two-day total of 136 for the state championships held at Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima.

Lindsey Dawson, Burlington-Edison softball: Dawson, a sophomore, struck out 47 batters in four games, allowing only four runs and two earned runs to lead the Tigers to their first softball state championship. She also hit nearly .600 through the tournament and sealed the championship with a three-run home run.

Class 1A

Curtis Clauson, King's track and field: Clauson, a sophomore, helped the Knights win their third consecutive state championship with first place finishes in the javelin (187-7) and 300 hurdles (39.14) and a second-place finish in the 110 high hurdles (15.49).

Devyn Baker, Montesano softball: Baker, a junior, gave up one run in 20 innings at the state tournament as she pitched the Bulldogs to their seventh state title in 12 years. She gave up 11 hits in four games, striking out 27, while walking three. Offensively, Baker also had six hits and six RBI.

Class 2B

Rob Groeschell, Northwest Christian (Lacey) baseball: Groeschell, a junior, went 4-5 in the championship game against DeSales for their first ever baseball title. The Navigators won in dramatic fashion by trailing three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to score four to win.

Jasmine Bingham, Wahkiakum track and field: Bingham, a senior, placed first in three events at the state championships in the 100 (12.91), 200 (26.38), long-jump (17-3). She also placed second in the 800 relay (149.84).

Class 1B

Travis Camp, Wilbur-Creston baseball: Camp, a junior, had six strikeouts in relief and was 2-4 from the plate, with a double and a single. The 10-4 victory over Touchet was the school's first boys championship in any sport.

Samantha Brewer, Klickitat track and field: Samantha, a sophomore, won titles in triple jump (33-0.25), long jump (15-10.75), 100 hurdles (17.08) and placed third in the high jump (4-9). She scored 36 of 40 possible points to help her team to a third-place finish at the state championships.

The WIAA/Seattle Times State Athletes of the Week are selected by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association and The Seattle Times from nominations by athletic directors around the state.
