Second-ranked Stanwood and third-ranked Lake Stevens started the Northwest 4A District girls basketball tournament with lopsided victories at home Tuesday night.

Stanwood beat Kamiak 61-38 and Lake Stevens overwhelmed Mariner 63-13 to roll into the district semifinals Friday night at Arlington High School.

Lake Stevens (20-1) will meet Snohomish at 6 p.m. and Stanwood (20-1) will take on Jackson at 8. The district championship game is Feb. 17.

In other games, Jackson beat Arlington 64-45 behind Kelli Kingma's 23 points, and Snohomish rallied in the fourth quarter for a 44-42 win over Edmonds-Woodway.

KingCo 3A tournament

• At Bellevue College, Liberty survived a roller-coaster game to beat Lake Washington 42-41 and reach the league tournament championship game. Aspen Winegar's 13 points led the Patriots, who endured some cold shooting in the second and third quarters before rallying to outscore the Kangs 16-9 in the final quarter.

Thursday at 8:15 p.m. at Bellevue College, Liberty plays for the title against Bellevue, which edged regular-season champion Juanita 52-50 in overtime Tuesday night despite Kate Cryderman's season-high 29 points for the Rebels. Kate Holmes scored 17 for the Wolverines.

Juanita faces Lake Washington at 4:45 p.m. Thursday at Bellevue College for third and fourth place.

Metro tournament

• Fourth-ranked Franklin and fifth-ranked Cleveland advanced to the championship game of the Metro League tournament with victories.

The Quakers beat Bainbridge 45-31 and Cleveland pulled away late to stop No. 7 Seattle Prep 47-35.

Franklin and Cleveland meet at 6 p.m. Friday at Brougham Pavilion for the Metro title. Seattle Prep and Bainbridge also are assured of advancing to the district tournament.

Other highlights

Katie Collier, who has missed about half her team's games while fighting a form of leukemia, scored 21 points as Seattle Christian finished its Nisqually League regular season with a 40-21 win at Orting. Collier, a 6-foot-3 senior, has a basketball scholarship to Washington. She's averaging 14.9 points in 12 games.
