UNIVERSITY PLACE — Emerald Ridge's string of championships in girls bowling came to an end Saturday as Battle Ground held on to win the Class 4A state team title at Narrows Plaza Bowl.
Battle Ground finished the two-day tournament with 7,716 pins. Emerald Ridge had 7,449. The Jaguars from Puyallup's South Hill had won the past three championships. Shelton placed third.
In the 3A/2A tournament, first-day leader Mark Morris of Longview pulled away for the team championship with 8,074 pins to runner-up Wilson's 7,474. Bremerton was third.
Friday night, the individual state championships were won by Battle Ground's Wylicia Faley (4A) and Kennewick's Karissa Shiftlet (3A/2A).
