Battle Ground, Kennewick bowlers win state titles
Battle Ground's Wylicia Faley won the Class 4A state title comfortably, and Kennewick's Karissa Shiftlet won the 3A/2A crown by just five pins.

UNIVERSITY PLACE — Battle Ground's Wylicia Faley started and finished strong, claiming the Class 4A girls bowling state championship by 66 pins Friday at Narrows Plaza Bowl.
Faley started with a 227 game, finished with a 224 and had a six-game total of 1,236 to outdistance runner-up Amanda Van Meter of Heritage (Vancouver), who knocked down 1,170 pins.
Faley averaged 206, with four games of 200 or more.
Elisa Couch of Emerald Ridge placed third at 1,142. Jaguars teammate Courtney Couch, the defending state champion, finished 13th at 1,044.
The Jaguars from the South Hill in Puyallup are in second place behind Battle Ground, but within striking distance going into Saturday's final day of team competition. Battle Ground had a Day 1 total of 5,172 pins to the Jaguars' 5,057.
Emerald Ridge is seeking its fourth consecutive 4A team title.
In the Class 3A/2A tournament, Kennewick's Karissa Shiftlet won the individual title by just five pins over Mark Morris teammates Brittany Yoke and Brittany Schlauch. Shiftlet had a six-game total of 1,209 (201.5 average).
Mark Morris (Longview) leads by a big margin after Day 1 of the team competition, with 5,488 pins to 5,094 for Wilson of Tacoma.
