BOTHELL — It's that time of year again for the Issaquah Eagles.

"That's what we keep talking about: Earning another week of practice," Issaquah coach Chris Bennett said.

The Eagles have had a knack of doing that late in the season in Bennett's tenure as head coach at Issaquah, earning at least a spot in the Class 4A state quarterfinals in each of his first three seasons.

A 40-24 victory over Inglemoor Friday night in a KingCo crossover playoff displayed the sort of explosive offense that the Eagles have historically been known for. And it sent Issaquah (7-2) into the district playoffs next week on the road in Vancouver against Skyview, the Greater St. Helens League champions.

"They've got a lot of tools," Inglemoor coach Frank Naish said.

Senior quarterback Ethan Kalin threw three touchdown passes and sophomore running back Jack Gellatly added 191 yards and two short touchdown runs on 31 carries to keep Inglemoor (5-4) off balance.

Gellatly scored both of his touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including the final one with 26 seconds remaining, as Issaquah finally put away an Inglemoor team that continued to strike back.

"They're a really good team," Kalin said.

Inglemoor, which finishes its season against Arlington next week, found itself trailing only 20-17 at halftime after Junior Vi intercepted a pass that bounced off an Issaquah receiver and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown.

Vi was a force for the Vikings on offense, defense and special teams and even threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Perry Pipkin after taking a direct snap in the wildcat formation.

But Issaquah's defense shut down Inglemoor's running game, and the Eagles' multi-dimensional offense proved to be too much for the Vikings to contain.

Kalin and Reed Peterson connected on two touchdown passes in the first half, the first for 59 yards that put Issaquah in front 13-3.

After forcing Inglemoor to punt to open the second half, Issaquah scored on a 54-yard touchdown pass from Kalin to Derek Chapman on the Eagles' first offensive play of the third quarter.

"The offense got a little bit excited in the first half," Bennett said. "We had to calm people down at halftime."
