John Verduin accounted for six touchdowns and Ballard of the KingCo 4A Conference stayed unbeaten with a 50-20 football victory over city rival Franklin Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

The Beavers, under first-year coach Joey Thomas, are 2-0 for the first time since 2003 when they went 11-3 and finished second in state. The win also marked the first time Ballard has posted back-to-back victories since 2007.

Their 50 points were only four fewer than the team scored all of last season (54).

Verduin, the Beavers' junior quarterback, led the winning effort. He threw touchdown strikes of 4, 27, 99 and 22 yards, and ran for two more scores.

Franklin of the 3A Metro League fell to 0-2 in its second straight week playing 4A competition. Dominique Smith scored touchdowns for the Quakers on runs of 29 and 52 yards.
